About World Productions

Award winning drama since 1990.

Founded in 1990, World Productions has produced over 500 hours of critically-acclaimed, award-winning drama for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, UKTV, HBO, Netflix, Prime Video and Sky. CEO and Creative Director Simon Heath joined in 1997 and has led the company since 2006. World was bought by ITV Studios in 2017 and has offices in London, Glasgow and Cardiff. World’s programmes, performers and crews have won 17 BAFTAs and 23 RTS Awards over the years.

World has blazed a trail of gripping, talkabout, contemporary TV that combines human stories with high stakes drama and authenticity, both in fictional and true life narratives. Launched in 2012, the multi-award winning, critically acclaimed Line of Duty enthralled the nation, becoming the most watched TV drama of the 21st century. The show was quickly followed by the BAFTA, Golden Globe and Emmy nominated Bodyguard in 2018, and 2021’s most watched drama, Vigil, which won the International Emmy for Best Drama Series in 2022.

Save Me Too was Sky’s most downloaded show during 2020’s lockdown and in 2021 won the BAFTA for Best Drama Series. The beginning of 2021 saw The Pembrokeshire Murders achieve ITV’s biggest audience for a new drama since 2006, and the highest rated ITV drama of the year.

World Productions has twice been awarded Independent Production Company of the Year at the Broadcast Awards, where it was described as a “bonafide hit factory”, and Best Independent Production Company at the Edinburgh Television Festival Awards.

The past few years have been the company’s busiest ever. In 2025 Karen Pirie and Malpractice will both return for a second series on ITV, and The Bombing of Pan-Am 103 will broadcast on the BBC & Netflix.

Currently World has eight shows in various stages of production through 2025-2026.
